Should you follow the crowd or speak your mind? The answer is clear in this comic tale about the dangers of vanity and the power of the simple truth. In its 46th annual production for young children, Masque Unit offers the hilarity of a fashion-conscious Emperor and his royal court, all bamboozled by a pair of swindling tailors. Catchy tunes and comedic dialogue enliven this musical retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale.
Masque Unit was founded in 1961 by women who saw a need to provide a live theatre experience at a reasonable cost for Marin children. The company is a nonprofit organization of volunteers pooling talents in costuming, writing, choreography, set design, graphics, directing and on-stage performances. Membership is open to anyone interested in the company's goals. The company has performed for Youth in Arts at the Marin Center for over 20 years and also takes its show on the road to children in outlying areas.
