Butterfly: The Story of a Life Cycle

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Recommended for Grades PreK-3

Veteran's Memorial Auditorium, 10:00 a.m. ONLY

Curriculum Links: Theatre, Dance, Science

From a tiny egg to a beautiful creature on the wing, a butterfly undergoes a remarkable process of growth and transformation across its life cycle.  Linking dance and puppetry with life sciences, Butterfly provides a unique perspective on this familar insect. Hudson Vagabond, creators of 2007’s Mammoth Follies, return with a performance to delight students and teachers alike.

Hudson Vagabond Puppets (HVP) creates larger-than-life puppetry and mask programs designed to fit into the school curriculum while also entertaining children and their families. HVP puppet artists are professional dancers and actors. Clad in black, they borrow from the traditional Japanese Bunraku style of puppetry, becoming mere shadows of the enormous figures they bring to life. HVP tours nationally throughout the year and has performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, California Institute of Technology, the Luther Burbank Center, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
